A Kingdom's Corruption

My Dearest X,

I am currently writing to you to let you know that the situation has become dire here at the kingdom. I am not sure what to do next. Part of me wants to run away from here right this moment and into your arms in Ilena. Another part of me knows that I must stay here until I know that I am safe.

I am fearing that Herald knows abut our affair. I haven't told anyone but the one person that I can trust, that delivers these letters. She is the only one I ever trust with such delicate matters. I am so secretive for a reason. For if Herald does find out, at least he will not know your name or your place of residence. He will also not know the person helping me either. The last thing I want is your lives in jeopardy.

I wish I could come to Ilena with you. You've often spoken of such beauty from there. I've been in Ayia all my life and I cannot imagine a place of such beauty when here is so brutal, so poverty ridden and desperate. I do not want to be here any longer. I will find a way out so that we can be together. I promise you this.

I must also tell you one more thing. This is the hardest thing I am ever going to have to write because I know you will miss out on some of life's important moments. But I need to tell you that it is to protect us first and that I do love you. If there was another way to be with you sooner, I would take it. But I cannot risk our lives.

By our lives, I mean mine and my child's. Yes, there is a new life inside of me. I can also tell you that it is not Herald's child. We haven't being intimate since the winter. You also know what this will mean I presume. I will have to give myself to him to make him believe that it is his child I am carrying, until I can safely leave the kingdom and flee with you to Ilena. I am sorry, and I hope in my next letter you will have found it in your heart to forgive me for the deception I am about to cause and for bedding my husband and not you.

I do love you.

Please forgive me.

Queen Leila.

That was the last letter X received from the Queen that summer. There affair had been short. They'd met when the Kingdom's were good neighbours and Ilenian Knights were visiting. The Queen, unhappy within a cruel Kingdom fell into the arms of the knight and they began a secret affair. Soon it was time to leave and they kept in contact through trusted messengers and letters.

Her suspicions were right though. The King had someone check up with her shortly after that last letter was sent. The letter above got to the the man the Queen had had an affair with, but no other letter did. The Queen kept on writing, having no idea that the letters weren't being received. As at the meeting point, one of the King's trusted men would take the letter and bring them back to the King, making the messenger believe that they were giving the letter to an Ilenian messenger.

The King also knew that the child she was carrying was not her's. Due to the fact that they hadn't had a child yet, and it was quite possible she was carrying a son, he decided to wait and not confront her on the matter. The following Spring, the Queen gave birth to a daughter. She wrote one last letter to the Ilenian Knight, letting him know that she was planning on fleeing with her daughter to him once she received his next letter with instructions.

Once the King got hold of this letter, he had the messenger killed. Then he confronted the Queen in an angry rage, doing unspeakable things to her before killing her. For some reason, unbeknownst to him, he let the daughter live. He kept her within his Kingdom, bringing her up as his own. He met a knew woman within weeks, they married, and she gave birth to a son a few months later that was his as he too, had been seeing someone else.

The Queen's death had been told as a horrible hate crime against King Herald. That people had broken into his Kingdom before beating, raping and murdering his wife, but sparing his daughter. Later that month five innocent people had been hung for a crime they didn't commit, leaving five families exiled from Ayia.

As for the Knight... All ties were broken between Ilena and Ayia after the Queen's murder. King Herald gave the reason that rogue Ilenian's had given the plans to his Kingdom over to the murderers so that they could break in and kill his wife. The Knight had no reason to go back to Ayia, and even when he tried, he had no way of getting past the border and into the Kingdom to try and find out if his child had lived. All he knew was that the Queen was carrying his child. After that he'd received no other letter. And then he heard that she'd been killed.

He knew that it was more than just coincidence. He truly believed that King Herald had found out about the affair. Going to his King with this information was risky, but he did so and though King Richard sympathised, both of them knew that it was too risky, and the costs were too high because neither place could afford a war to start. And so the Knight was left not knowing what had really happened to his love, and to his child.

Before he met the queen, he'd had four sons and after he heard about the Queen's death, he eventually settled down with a woman and had two more sons. He told his wife the truth about what happened and throughout the years, he wrote everything he could down about Ayia, what he knew, and the facts that he'd found out. He'd occasionally managed to get into Ayia, but he couldn't get near the Kingdom. He had heard that the King had a daughter from his first wife, and then a son from his second. This was all he needed to know. He had a daughter that was alive.

For years after he continued to log everything as his health declined until he eventually died when his eldest son was in his early 30's.

In his will, he made sure that when his eldest son turned 35, all the information was passed to him, in hope that he could band together with the eldest sons and anyone else, and hopefully find and rescue his daughter, who would be around 16.

Now, the six sons, and anyone else they can gather are on a rescue mission. The son's are 35, 33, 28, 25, and the two youngest are only 13 and 8. The four eldest read about their father's plight, find the maps he's made and the plan he's drawn out on how to save his daughter. Together they get a few more people involved to carry the plans out. Due to the mother's ailing health, the son's that are 28 and 25 have to stay behind to look after their two younger brothers. But the two eldest band together with 3 more men for the rescue mission.

And on one stormy night, they plan to get into Ayia and save their father's daughter.

So, that is the basis for the roleplay. It's going to be a medieval (if you haven't already guessed :P) setting which shows the Ayian King to a greedy, corrupt King and shows the real depths of his evilness. This is just an interest check at the moment, but to give you an idea of the characters I'm looking for, I'm thinking of having the two eldest sons, being played as main characters in the plot, and the three men with them. Then also females/males that are on the side of the rescue mission, (ones that aren't going into the castle, but waiting the men to return - looking after the horses etc). And then secondary characters, (if you want to join up and double) can be the Kings, the second wife of Herald, their son, and the four other brothers, the younger brothers mother who is only in her 40's, and anyone else that can be thought of.

And that's it. So, let me know your interested and maybe we can get this underway :)
