MEXICO CITY ? Soldiers have detained an alleged hit man who is accused of kidnapping bus passengers, killing them and burying them in mass graves in northern Mexico, authorities said Thursday.
Abraham Barrios Caporal, 26, was captured in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz and has acknowledged working for the Zetas drug cartel, Mexico's Defense Department said in a statement.
Barrios Caporal is suspected of taking part in the killings of bus passengers and their burial in clandestine graves at a ranch in the town of San Fernando in Tamaulipas state, the department said.
Barrios Caporal was arrested in the city of Coatzacoalcos Tuesday along with three other members of his cell, said army spokesman, Col. Ricardo Trevilla.
Authorities in Tamaulipas began uncovering bodies in mass graves in early April following reports that passengers were being pulled off buses at gunpoint.
As of early June, 193 bodies had been found in 26 graves. Officials say most of those were Mexican migrants heading to the United States who were kidnapped off buses and killed by the Zetas drug cartel.
Barrios Caporal told authorities some of the passengers were kidnapped because were suspected of being members of the rival Gulf cartel.
San Fernando is the same place where 72 Central and South American migrants were slaughtered last August also by the Zetas.
Barrios Caporal is also suspected in that mass killing, the department said.

The BBC's Bilal Sarwary: "We have heard explosions from 5km away"
Nato helicopters have been called in to strike militants on the roof of a hotel in the Afghan capital, Kabul, that was attacked by suicide bombers and gunmen.
Two helicopters shot dead three attackers at the Intercontinental Hotel during an overnight clash that lasted nearly five hours.
Three other attackers and at least seven other people were killed in the assault on the hotel.
The hotel is popular with Westerners, although all guests are reported safe.
A spokesman for the Taliban said the insurgent group had carried out the attack.
Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the hotel as the sun rose over Kabul.
Afghan security officials said at least six militants had stormed the hotel, and all had been killed.
Interior ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqi told AFP that all seven non-militants killed at the hotel were Afghans, and that eight other people had been wounded.

One guest who was caught up in the attack told the BBC he had experienced the most difficult hours of his life.
Another guest described a scene of chaos and panic, with everyone running in fear. There had been a wedding party at the hotel, as well as a meeting of some provincial governors.
The fighting took place in darkness as electricity was cut to the hotel and surrounding area. The interior minister said this had been done intentionally, as Afghan security forces were using night-vision equipment.
The attack began while many guests were in the dining room of the hotel late on Tuesday.
Afghan officials told the BBC that one suicide bomber had blown himself up at the front of the hotel and another on the second floor.
Witnesses said panic broke out as guests fled for safety. Afghan troops and police sealed off the hotel and cut the power, using flares to light the area.
One guest said he jumped from a first-floor window to escape the gunmen.
"I was running with my family," the man, named as Jawid, told AP news agency.
"There was shooting. The restaurant was full with guests."
Intense gunfire was heard coming from the hotel and some explosions could be heard up to 5km away, said the BBC's Bilal Sarwary in Kabul.
Afghan police said one militant was shot dead as security forces fought their way through the hotel. Three attackers managed to reach the roof and Afghan officials then asked the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) for assistance, security sources told the BBC.
Isaf spokesman Major Tim James said those killed on the roof by Nato helicopters appeared to have been wearing suicide vests.
An Afghan official said the attackers had hand-grenades, rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47s.
Officials said a meeting of provincial governors taking place at the hotel might have been the target of the attack.

The attack also came the night before the start of a conference about the transition of responsibility for security from Isaf to Afghan security forces.
Correspondents say the Intercontinental is one of Kabul's most heavily guarded hotels.
The US state department condemned the attack, saying it demonstrated "the terrorists' complete disregard for human life".
Kabul has been relatively stable in recent months, although violence has increased across the country since the killing of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan on 2 May, and the start of the Taliban's "spring offensive".
In January 2008, militants stormed the capital's most popular luxury hotel, the Serena, and killed eight people, including an American, a Norwegian and a Philippine woman.

ATHENS, Greece ? Riot police fired tear gas at youths hurling rocks near the Greek finance ministry Tuesday, trying to quell the anger unleashed by a general strike as parliament debated new cost-cutting measures.
The latest austerity measures must pass in two parliamentary votes Wednesday and Thursday if Greece is to receive bailout funds from the EU and the IMF that will keep it from becoming the first eurozone nation to default on its debts.
The clashes with police came at the start of a two-day general strike called by unions furious that the government's new euro28 billion ($40 billion) austerity program will slap taxes on minimum wage earners and other struggling Greeks. The measures come on top of other spending cuts and tax hikes that have sent the Greek unemployment rate soaring to over 16 percent.
Hooded youths ripped up paving stones and set trash bins on fire in central Athens as police gave chase and fired tear gas and stun grenades. Earlier, about 20,000 people had marched peacefully in two separate demonstrations, while another 7,000 protested in the northern city of Thessaloniki without incident.
Everyone from doctors and ambulance drivers to casino workers and even actors at a state-funded theater were joining the strike or holding work stoppages for several hours.
Hundreds of flights were canceled or rescheduled as air traffic controllers walked off the job for four hours in the morning ? and were holding another walkout in the evening. Strikes by public transport workers snarled traffic across the capital, while other protesters blockaded the port of Piraeus.
"The situation that the workers are undergoing is tragic and we are near poverty levels," said Spyros Linardopoulos, a protester with the PAME union at the Piraeus blockade. "The government has declared war and to this war we will answer back with war."
Lawmakers began debating the latest austerity measures Monday and were continuing Tuesday. The package and an additional implementation law must be passed so the European Union and the International Monetary Fund release the next installment of Greece's euro110 billion ($156 billion) bailout loan.
Without that euro12 billion ($17 billion) installment, Greece faces the prospect of a default next month ? a potentially disastrous event that could drag down European banks, hurt other financially troubled European countries and even shock the whole global financial system.
But even lawmakers from the governing Socialists have been upset over the latest measures demanded by international creditors, and Prime Minister George Papandreou has struggled to contain an internal party revolt. He reshuffled his cabinet earlier this month to try to ensure his party's support for this vote, but the Socialists still only have a 5-seat majority in the 300-member Parliament.
Papandreou urged lawmakers Monday to fulfill a "patriotic duty" by voting in favor of the new measures, but two of his own lawmakers have suggested they won't.
European officials have also been pressuring Greece's the main conservative opposition party to back the austerity bill.
"Both the future of the country and financial stability in Europe are at stake," European Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn said. "I fully respect the prerogatives and the sovereignty of the Greek Parliament in the ongoing debate. And I trust that the Greek political leaders are fully aware of the responsibility that lies on their shoulders to avoid default."
But conservative party leader Antonis Samaras has refused, arguing that while he backs some austerity measures, the overall thinking behind the package is flawed.
Greece remains frozen out of bond markets and is surviving on the euro110 billion ($156 billion) in promised bailout loans. But the initial plan had assumed that Greece would be able to return to the markets next year.
That won't happen, and a result Athens is negotiating for a second bailout, which Papandreou has said will be roughly the same size as the first.
Papandreou said he hoped the terms would be better than those for the first bailout.
"I call on Europe, for its part, to give Greece the time and the terms it needs to really pay off its debt, without strangling growth, and without strangling its citizens," he said.

Do it inside the room or private place and never spank in front of others. Set a number of spanks for each violation. Proper spanking teaches but incorrect spanking may lead to rebellion. Set rules when spanking.
Spanking is usually given to children ages 3 to 10. Children above 10 years old are less likely to be spanked but rather lovingly admonished. Children above 10 years old and teenagers are looking for more than a reprimand, they are longing for someone that they can look at, to be their model, not only in words but also in action. So parents need to set a good example. When giving punishment to a toddler, do it right there and then. Do not wait until you get home before giving the punishment because children has short term memory and may not understand why you are punishing him when you arrived home.
Always remind the child that he is being punished not because he is bad or has done bad things, but because he is loved and that disobedience has consequences. Avoid using words that may wound his heart like, "You never learn!", "You're always like that.", or "You're stupid!" instead use right words while giving discipline like "I love you but I don't like what you did that's why...", "I know that you are not bad, that's why..." Ask the child why he is being punished and let him answer to help him understand the reason but don't be angry if he answers 'I don't know' (this is a normal answer of most kids), instead calmly explain why you are giving the punishment. And most importantly, pray with the child after giving the punishment so he'll know that disobedience has consequences but your love and acceptance is still there and God is ready to forgive him when he admits his wrongdoing and asks for forgiveness.
Lastly, both parents should be one in giving rewards and punishments so that the child will respect them and not dishonor them because of inconsistency. The Bible also warns the fathers to not exasperate the children instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord which is stated in Ephesians 6:4. Exasperate means to annoy, drive mad, or push them to rebellion. That's why it is important that love must not be removed in giving rewards and punishments to our children. Also, creating a caring, healing, and loving environment in the house that honors God will bring every good thing to follow through.
WASHINGTON ? Republicans are starting to pay more attention to the candidates who hope to take on President Barack Obama next year, and so far that's been a good thing for Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty. Not for Newt Gingrich.
Overall, a new Associated Press-GfK poll shows, Republicans are giving the field of challengers a so-so assessment as interest in the race increases. And, with growing doubts among Americans that Obama deserves re-election, Democratic interest in the GOP field is significant, too.
Bachmann, a three-term congresswoman supported by many tea party members, enjoyed a big boost in her favorability rating among Republicans after she turned in a smooth debate performance this month and joined the presidential race.
Former Minnesota Gov. Pawlenty also made progress with Republicans, particularly among tea party supporters. GOP field leader Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, held steady in the eyes of Republicans ? but gained no ground ? with the formal launch of his campaign. Former House Speaker Gingrich, who announced his campaign five weeks ago, was heading in the wrong direction.
The Georgian's favorability rating among Republicans plunged in one month from 61 percent to 43 percent as his campaign was plagued by massive staff defections, abysmal fund-raising and reports that he and his wife had racked up huge bills at luxury jeweler Tiffany's.
Gingrich did the logical thing in response: dismiss the importance of early political handicapping.
In an appearance this week, he noted that if early conventional wisdom had been accurate, Hillary Rodham Clinton would have won the Democratic nomination for president in 2008, not Barack Obama, and Rudy Giuliani would have been the GOP nominee, not John McCain.
There was plenty for political spectators to watch in the past month as GOP candidates moved themselves in ? and out ? of contention, and more Republicans tuned in: 71 percent of Republicans surveyed said they had a great deal or quite of bit of interest in the contest, compared with 65 percent in May and March.
That isn't necessarily translating into enthusiasm, however.
"There's no dynamite person," said 66-year-old Rich McGough, of Mount Gretna, Pa. But McGough allowed that Bachmann offers some "pizazz," and Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who's considering joining the race, also would be solid choices.
Republicans can take comfort that satisfaction with the GOP field rose. Fifty-two percent said they were satisfied with the slate this month, up from 41 percent a month earlier. And satisfaction was highest among those who were paying the closest attention.
Overall, Americans are about evenly divided on whether Obama deserves re-election ? 48 percent say yes, 47 percent no ? and that could be driving broader interest in the GOP nomination race.
Among all those surveyed, 59 percent said they were interested in the GOP contest. But just 39 percent were satisfied with the Republican field of candidates. Among independents, 57 percent were dissatisfied.
The expected GOP field has done considerable shifting this spring, gaining Bachmann and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman while losing Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, and businessman Donald Trump.
Some voters remain hopeful the lineup ultimately will include candidates who are still big question marks: Perry, former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and former New York Mayor Giuliani.
Rancher and school teacher Jeanne Renfro, 52, from Channing, Texas, says she'd like to see Perry join the race.
"I'm not sure that I would actually vote for Rick Perry, but I think if he would actually get in he would bring some valuable debate to the issues," she said. Overall, Renfro said, "I'm not too impressed" with the GOP field.
Among other poll details:
_Republicans still give Romney the highest favorability rating among announced candidates, at 61 percent. Palin, who's keeping everyone guessing about her intentions, is holding steady, too, with a 63 percent favorability rating.
_Bachmann's favorability rating jumped from 41 percent to 54 percent among Republicans. A third still have no opinion about her, and it's too soon to tell if her boost will endure or was a June phenomenon.
_Huntsman, who announced his candidacy this week but still is relatively unknown nationally, had a 23 percent favorability rating among Republicans. He's gotten better known ? 59 percent had no opinion about him in the latest poll, down slightly from 66 percent a month earlier. But the result was an increase in those with an unfavorable opinion, from 11 percent to 17 percent, with a greater uptick among tea party supporters.
_Pawlenty, one of the first to get into the race, saw his favorable ratings rise 10 percentage points to 43 percent. His support among tea party backers was up 11 points.
The poll was conducted June 16-20 by GfK Roper Public Affairs and Corporate Communications. It involved landline and cellphone interviews with 1,001 adults nationwide and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points. The survey included 429 Republicans, and that subset had a larger, 6.2 percentage point margin of error.
