Mamavation Monday: Childhood Obesity ? Mamavation

We?ve heard the scary statistics ? over the past 20 years childhood obesity rates have doubled. Overweight children and teens are more likely to develop serious health problems such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. A part of what we do here in the Mamavation community is trying to?transform?our lives and lives of our families for the better. It doesn?t take much to start taking small steps ? park further from the store or take the stairs instead of elevator, ditch chips and soda, make better nutritional choices. But when it comes to our children, how do you get your children to make better choices when they are outside of home.?Unfortunately?the?world?outside of our house most of the time has some really bad food offerings. Store shelves, vending machines, and school cafeterias jammed with food I would never allow at my house.

How can we change that? What steps can we make to sure our kids stay healthy??Our Mamavation TV guest is a well known fitness expert and TV personality has joined the good fight against childhood obesity.

Special Guest:?John Basedow (@JohnBasedow)

Do you remember this jingle?

John Basedow is the creator of the best-selling Fitness Made Simple video series, which has helped to improve the bodies and lives of thousands of men and women. From starting out in his parent?s basement to being seen on television sets across the country and deemed a ?pop culture icon? by the media, John?s journey is an American dream come true ?rags to riches? story.?The way he accomplished those goals for himself is detailed in his book?Fitness Made Simple: The Power to Change Your Body & Life.

?The reason I wrote this book was to save others the wasted time, effort, not to mention money, and frustration that I went through in my own efforts to improve my body and health. My story and the many other success stories of FMS Members, from teenagers to grandparents, that are scattered throughout the pages of this book show people that whatever goals they have are possible to attain and within their reach as long as they believe in themselves.?
