The road to permanent weight loss can be a tough one to travel for some people but it does not have to be impossible to reach your destination.
Here are a few things that you need to do to keep you on the road to success:
Forget the word diet!
Never consider yourself as being on a diet. Diets conjure images of sacrifice and denial. This is not a positive mind-set to keep yourself in. How can you be happy if you feel that you are constantly deprived?
You need a healthy eating plan which gives you all the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs from the correct balance of carbohydrates, lean protein, fats and fibre.
There is an abundance of healthy and appetising foods out there that you can enjoy eating and if you occasionally eat some forbidden foods or cheat a little, well, it will do you no harm. In fact it will be good for you to do this occasionally so that you do not feel deprived of all the things you used to love to eat.
Soon you will come to dislike junk food and the way it makes you feel and your healthy eating plan will be firmly established with you for the long term and not merely the few months that a diet would hold your interest.
Set achievable goals.
It is important to have a goal in your weight loss plan but it must be achievable.
If you are aiming to lose 50lbs and decide that you want to do this in 2 months then you are going to be disappointed when the 8 weeks are up and you are not the weight that you wished to be.
This disappointment is enough in some people to give up their quest in despair. But the problem is not that you cannot lose 50lbs, but that you cannot do it in 8 weeks!
Be realistic!
A regular steady and healthy weight loss should be counted at a rate of 1 to 2lbs per week. It is possible that you will lose more, especially in the early stages of your weight loss, so if you set yourself a goal of 50lbs weight loss to take you between 6 and 7 months then you have a good chance of reaching your goal.
There is also more chance of steady weight loss becoming permanent weight loss than there is with the dramatic losses that may be gained with fad diets and starvation diets.
Exercise is vital!
Have no illusions here?without exercise then you will not achieve your goal.
Make exercise a regular part of your life. Change your routines regularly and push yourself constantly to increase and improve your output. As your weight goes down and your strength and stamina go up you will come to enjoy and love exercise where before perhaps, it may have only filled you with dread.
Know your limits!
Find out from your doctor or a nutritionist what is a safe calorie level for you to adhere to, and stay within this range.
Get a calorie counting book and keep a log of the food that you eat every day and the calories that you consume. This will help you to understand food values and to keep a track on what you eat.
To lose 2lbs per week you will need to drop 1000 calories per day but remember that does not take into account the extra calories that you can burn off through exercise.
Be confident!
Self-esteem and confidence are very important in the battle with permanent weight loss. Believe in yourself and your ability to lose this weight. Tell yourself on a regular basis that you are going to lose this weight and believe in yourself because you can do this!
With effort and the application of your will and determination, in a few short months you could have travelled down the road and reached your destination of permanent weight loss.
