EASTLAKE ? Sunday was a very emotional day as hundreds of people in Eastlake attended the Remember 9/11/01 Ceremony.

It took place at the ?Boulevard of 500 Flags? and honored the 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty rescuing thousands of people before the towers collapsed on Sept. 11.

As part of the ceremony, retired New York City Firefighter John Murphy was scheduled to speak on behalf of the fallen firefighters and Chas Lane of the Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society was to speak on behalf of the fallen law enforcement officers.

The event will also honor the thousands of soldiers who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for our freedom after the attacks.

Some people who arrived for the ceremony early said we need to remember our fallen heroes.

?There are families that lost loved ones that they have to deal with that loss for the rest of their lives.? The least we can do is let them know we?re not gonna forget them, and we?ll honor and remember them,? said John Kikol, one of the organizers.

?It?s ultimately important for our country to have heroes.? And the firemen, policemen, and the rescue people that went into the burning building to rescue the innocent people and to honor the victims of that day,? said Dave Aslaksen of Avon.

As in recent years, the event ends with motorcyclists from all over Ohio taking part in a large processional ride.
